Obituary for Margaret Baker (Hymes)

Mrs. Margaret Hymes Baker, age 88, a resident of Belington, departed this life Wednesday morning March 22, 2017, in the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins, following a period of declining health.

She was born on April 11, 1928 at Philippi, WV, a daughter of the late Sherman Gilbert and Elena Pearl Arbogast Hymes. On November 3, 1943 she was united in marriage to Opal Edgar Baker, who preceded her in death on January 15, 2008.

She is survived by one son; Edgar Allen Baker and wife Jane of Wise River, Montana, two daughters; Shelley Hollen of Belington and Nancy Tavalocci of Elkins, one sister; Mary Sponaugle of Smyrna, Delaware, one brother; Matthew Hymes and wife Nadine of Poland, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by five sisters; Wanda Clair Harris, Bessie Right, Ruth Shaffer, June Coontz Fredlock, and Josephine Hymes four brothers; Ronald Hymes, John “Buck” Hymes, Short Hymes, and Forest Hymes, two son’s-in-law; Jeff Hollen and Joseph Tavalocci.

Margaret attended the schools of Barbour County and previously was employed in the food and manufacturing industries. She attended the Silent Grove Church in Philippi, until her health no longer allowed her to attend. Margaret was an avid quilter, was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Margaret’s request for cremation will be honored. Her cremains will be interred at a later date in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
