Obituary for Betty Ryan (Ratliff)

Mrs. Betty Lou Ratliff Ryan, age 73, a resident of Barbour County Highway, Belington, departed this life Wednesday October 25, 2017 in the comforts of her home following a period of declining health.

She was born December 1, 1943 at Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Oscar Enoch Ratliff and Bernice Reta Day Griffith. On May 12, 1964, at the Belington Baptist Church, she was united in marriage to Ronald J. “Butch” Ryan who survives at their residence.

She is survived by two daughters; Cheryl Colbert and husband Joe of Martinsburg, and Heather George and husband Greg of Belington, one sister; Janet D’Allessandro of Portsmouth, VA, also surviving are five grandchildren; Ryan, Tanner, and Lilleigh George and Rachel and Lauren Colbert.

She was preceded in death by her step father; James Harvey Griffith, and one brother; James Robert “Sonny” Griffith.

Betty attended the schools of Upshur County and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Belington and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #68 also of Belington. She formerly worked as a clerk for George Glenn Grocery Store and also at Price’s Grocery Store both of Belington. She later worked at the Barbour County Senior Center and at Dianne’s Restaurant both of Belington. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private family visitation will be on Sunday October 29, 2017 from 12-2 from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N Brandenburg Street in Belington with a private family service to follow at 2:00 pm with the Pastor Julia Miller and Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment to then follow in the Fraternal Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Betty Lou Ratliff Ryan.
