Obituary for Randall Coontz

Mr. Randall Kent Coontz, age 61, a resident of Mud Gut Road in Belington, departed this life Monday afternoon April 2, 2018 at his home, following a period of declining health.

He was born September 21, 1956 at Elkins, WV, a son of the late Edward Ray “Eddie” and Florence Ruth Sturm Coontz. On July 7, 1975 he was united in marriage to the former Susan Lee Moran, who survives at their home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children; Tanya Lynn Coontz and Randall Jackson Coontz both of Belington, one brother; Rodney Darren Coontz, four grandchildren; Bryce Altman, Austin Lawrence, Lisa Bowers and Jacklyn Holsberry, and one great grandchild; Paige Holsberry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter; Lisa Holsberry and two grandchildren; Caleb and Kaylynn Holsberry.

Randall was a graduate of Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1974 and was a graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in history. Randall was a former 1st Sargent with the Army Special Forces and was a Professor of History. He loved to discuss the events of history with his friends. He loved to work on the family farm, was a Methodist by faith and was an avid sports fan. Randall was a loving husband and father and was a good friend many people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Per Randall’s request for cremation was honored and entrusted to Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington. A graveside service will be held on June 4, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Lambert Chapel Cemetery near Belington, WV, with full Military rites accorded by the US Army and the American Legion Post # 96 of Belington. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Randall Kent Coontz. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com
