Obituary for Porter Arlen "Bud" Thorne

Mr. Porter Arlen “Bud” Thorne, age 83, a resident of Belington, departed this life early Friday morning, October 19, 2018 in the Davis Medical Center at Elkins. Death was following a period of declining health.

He was born May 24, 1935 at Belington, a son of the late Porter Lovett and Audra Blanche Ervin Thorne. On August 8, 1954 he was united in marriage to the former Leotta Gay McDonald who survives in Belington.

In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by two daughters Vickie Hollen Boni of Philippi and Sharon Humphreys and husband Mike of Charlotte, NC, five grandchildren, Heather Hinson, Richie Humphreys, Kory Humphreys, Joshua Hollen and Brian Hollen. Surviving great-grandchildren include Abbie and Noah Hinson, and Caleb, Ty, and Annan Humphreys, Tyler, Jaelynn, Landon, Briana, and Liam Hollen. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Richard Arlen Thorne, nine brothers, Wilbur “Wib” Thorne, Doyle Thorne, Tommy Thorne, Melvin Thorne, Clarence Thorne, Willard “Bill” Thorne, Hartsel Thorne, Paul Thorne, and Franklin Thorne and three sisters Areta “Sis” McDonald, Freda Upton, and Arlene Kirby. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.


He attended the schools of Barbour County and worked as a block and brick layer most of his adult life. He was a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers and Local BAC District Council of WV. He enjoyed hunting and fishing before his health prevented him to do so. He was a Protestant by faith and attended the Calvary Mission Church in Belington. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N Brandenburg Street in Belington on Monday, October 22, 2018 from 5-8 pm and again on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 8am to 1pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Howard Biller officiating. Interment will then follow in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Porter Arlen “Bud” Thorne.
