Obituary for Natalie M Meritt Harris (Curtis)

Mrs. Natalie M. Curtis Merritt Harris, age 90, a lifelong resident of Junior, and more recently of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Society went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning December 29, 2020 in the care facility. Death was following a brief illness.

She was born July 10, 1930 at Randolph County, WV, a daughter of the late Blair L. and Ava Cutright Curtis. She was twice married 1st to Edgar Joe Merritt, who preceded her in death due to a mining accident in 1966 and 2nd to Dickie Guy Harris, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two children; Edgar Joe Merritt Jr. of Beverly and Ava Lou McGee and husband Walter of Philippi, two step-children; Jeffrey Harris and Alesia Harris Swartz and husband Lee of Belington, two brothers; Kenneth Curtis and wife Sue of Philippi and James Curtis and wife Judy of Elkins, one sister; Dora Foy of Junior. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren; Angela McGee McDaniel and husband Roger of Moatsville, Wade McGee and wife Jamie of Philippi, Edgar Joe Merritt III and wife Jennifer of Leetonia, Ohio, Jamie Merritt of Beverly, Jonathon Merritt and wife Chantel of Beverly, Brianna and Shelby Merritt of Huntington Beach, California, two step-grandchildren; Christina Jimenez, Alexandra Robbins and husband Bobby of Belington, sixteen great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by two brothers; William Bill Curtis and Earl Jacob “Pete” Curtis, one step-grandchild; Cpl. R.J. Jimenez.

Natalie attended the schools of Barbour County and was a member of the New Covenant Church in Junior. She worked several jobs including area sewing factories and lastly at The Wee Train daycare in Junior. She loved to bake, sew, decorate cakes and doing crafts. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private family visitation will be conducted at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday December 30, 2020. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday December 31, 2020, from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Richard Williams and Rev. Jim Curtis officiating. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic face masks and social distancing are mandatory. A private interment will follow in the Mt. View K of P Cemetery near Junior. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the New Covenant Church P.O. Box 36 Junior, WV 26275. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Natalie M. Curtis Merritt Harris.
